The primary goal of the Teachers’ Pension Fund is to invest Plan assets in a manner that maximizes investment returns, within an acceptable level of risk, to enable the Plan to meet its long term funding requirements.

Under Section 41 of the Teachers’ Pension Plan Regulations, upon marriage breakdown, a former spouse of a member is entitled to receive up to one-half of the pension benefit earned during the period of marriage.
You may be eligible to purchase a period of prior service for time when you were away on an authorized leave for which you did not pay contributions to the TPP.
Often Plan members belong to more than one pension plan over their career as a teacher.
As of August 1, 2014, all disability pensions for Nova Scotia teachers’ are provided from the newly introduced Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union Long Term Disability Insurance plan.
There are appeal provisions available for active and retired Teachers’ Pension Plan members.
As a TPP member, if you terminate employment you are entitled to a pension benefit and your options will depend on whether you are vested at the time of your termination of employment and/or your age.
